Wal-Mart Offers Comcast Services

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 4/19/2006

Philadelphia — Comcast, the nation’s largest cable TV multi-system operator, said it has reached a deal to sell its triple-play service solutions through Wal-Mart stores.

Wal-Mart will offer Comcast’s TV, broadband and broadband telephony service bundles through Wal-Mart’s “Connection Centers,” beginning this spring with approximately 500 Wal-Mart locations across all Comcast's territories.

Wal-Mart’s Connection Centers offer consumers a range of service-based home-entertainment products, including video, phone, high-speed Internet, wireless and audio services. Products offered there include HD television monitors, computer monitors, speakers, MP3 players, Web cams and digital cameras.

“Our partnership with Wal-Mart further supports our continuing efforts to develop new ways to offer Comcast services to consumers at a time and place that's convenient for them. More than 140 million consumers visit a Wal-Mart store every week,” said Bob Faught, Comcast senior VP.

Comcast said the announcement was the “first in a series of agreements” with premium retailers. Comcast has offered its services through various retail partners since 1999.

Wal-Mart will offer customers a new $59 suggested retail integrated broadband kit, which combines a Motorola SB5120 modem and Comcast's self-install kit.
