Instant Cellular Phone Battery Debuts

By Staff -- TWICE, 4/21/2003

A new on-the-spot cellular phone battery with multiple applications, called Cellboost, is available from Compact Power Systems.

Merchandised as "revolutionary" by the company, in that Cellboost is "not just a new product, but a new concept and category," the battery is a disposable product that weighs less than 1 ounce and is only a bit larger than a postage stamp. It is about 2 inches high by 1 inch wide.

The battery simply plugs into popular cellular handsets, re-energizes these and provides phones about 40 minutes of talk time and about 40 hours of standby time.

As a disposable battery/charger, Compact said it believes that every mobile user will eventually find the need for utilization of Cellboost, and that this is especially applicable to the business traveler and the youth market.

Initially, Compact will offer batteries that will work with six or seven cellphone models, which the company said will account for 85 percent to 90 percent of all cellphones being used by consumers.

Compact feels the current phone marketplace provides an ideal time for Cellboost, considering increases in phone technology and expansion of multi-purpose phone usage. Also, as handsets incorporate color displays and features that more rapidly exhaust battery power, actual cellphone batteries are not keeping up with usage demands, said the company.

Thus, Compact is positioning Cellboost as affordable, portable, convenient and easy to use — a battery that virtually eliminates emergency situations for the cellphone market.

Batteries will be sold in clear, plastic packages with cutouts for hanging on j-hooks. Suggested retail is $9.95 and product will be shipped at the end of May.
