Gear Duracell Flat Battery To Slim Digital Cameras

Bethel, Conn. — The disposable, flat Duracell CP1 lithium primary prismatic battery is finding its way into more new thinner and sleeker digital cameras.
Nikon, for one, plans to introduce two new slim models in 2004 using the CP1 battery. Nikon was one of the first manufacturers to make available CP1-enabled digital cameras, namely its Coolpix 3700, beginning at the end of 2003. Also, Samsung's Digimax U-CA 3 now incorporates the CP1 battery.
The Duracell CP1, said to be the first-ever high-power lithium primary prismatic battery designed specifically for digital cameras, allows camera makers to promote thinner profiles for their hardware, while their cameras can accept both disposable and rechargeable sources of power.
Duracell claims the CP1 fills a void in the market, due to its flat shape and high-power chemistry. With devices getting smaller and smaller, makers have had a hard time incorporating both disposable and rechargeable power in digital cameras, until the CP1, said the battery maker.
Duracell CP1 batteries are being packaged in blister cards containing a single cell. Suggested retails range from $8 to $12.
The company also has introduced a "new and improved" 2300mAh AA nickel metal hydride (NiMH) rechargeable battery for digital cameras. Scheduled for September availability, the new cell marks an enhancement to Duracell's existing 2050mAh cells.
The new AA battery complements the company's existing rechargeable line, including a 30-minute charger and lithium-ion and NiMH battery packs for digital cameras and camcorders.
New 2300mAh rechargeable AA cells will be available in two-cell and four-cell blister card packs. Suggested retails will keep within Duracell's existing range for AA rechargeable batteries, mainly between $6.99 and $12.99.
