Trial Of 3G Standard Set

SAN DIEGO —The Telecommunications Industry Association approved a wireless standard that combines Qualcomm's High Data Rate (HDR) technology with CDMA 1x technology to be called CDMA 1x EV, Qualcomm announced. Carrier Verizon said it will try out the technology next year, complementing its trials of CDMA 1x. CDMA 1x doubles CDMA voice capacity and delivers a peak packet-data rate of 144 Kbps. 1x EV boosts the peak data rate to 2.4 Mbps in mobile applications, exceeding the official 3G-standard data rate of 2 Mbps peak for fixed applications and 384 Kbps peak in a mobile application. The EV technology can be added to a 2G cdmaOne network or a 3G cdma2000 network.
