CEA Sponsors SINOCES In China

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 7/5/2005

Qingdao, China — The 2005 China International Consumer Electronics Show (SINOCES), China's largest consumer electronics event, was held here July 1-4, and the fourth annual show was sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), producers of the International CES.

“SINOCES 2005 presents an excellent opportunity for CEA to reach out to the untapped and rapidly growing Chinese consumer electronics market,” said Gary Shapiro, president/CEO of CEA, who was a keynote speaker at the event.

“Partnering with the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce to host this event will allow us to increase the exposure of SINOCES internationally as well as to help foster trade opportunities between the United States and Chinese technology markets.”

SINOCES, held at the Qingdao International Convention Center, here, is the only consumer technology event supported by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry, the Chinese Ministry of Science & Technology and approved by the top Chinese administration, the State Council, CEA said.

The 2005 event featured more than 80 global exhibitors and was expected to draw more than 70,000 attendees from more than 50 countries. Exhibitors included manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and related products and services. Several SINOCES exhibitors such as Epson, Haier, Hisense, Samsung and Sony also will be exhibiting at the 2006 International CES.

Running in conjunction with SINOCES, the Consumer Electronics Industry Summit Forum brought together Chinese government officials and technology industry leaders to discuss issues important to developing the global consumer electronics market. Shapiro’s speech focused on the growing importance of China in the global consumer electronics market and the challenges and opportunities ahead for U.S.-China trade relations.
