road. Garmin claimed the wider screen is useful for the 1490T’s features, including the display of road signs at highway intersections, lane cues and speed limit postings.

The unit also includes free lifetime traffic and Bluetooth hands-free calling compatible with more than 200 Bluetooth-enabled phones

The Nuvi 1490T is also designed for pedestrian use by travelers. It works with optional CityXplorer pedestrian/public transit maps available for select tourist destinations in North America and Europe. The maps let users plan routes via bus and subway as well as on foot and cost from $9.99 to $14.99, depending on the city.

Other features on the Nuvi 1490T include text-to-speech pronunciation of street names and preloaded maps of North America. Suggested price is $499.
