JBL Highlights Speaker Combos, Introduces Flagship Loudspeaker

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2007

JBL will be showcasing a variety of products at International CES. The company can be found at the Harman Consumer Group booth 1831 in the North Hall.

It will begin shipping its CS6100 ($1,099 suggested retail) and CS480 ($799 suggested retail) 5.1-channel home theater loudspeaker packages this month. Both systems include four wall-mountable satellite speakers and a wall-mountable center-channel speaker. The CS6100 also features a 10-inch, 200-watt subwoofer, and the CS480 includes an 8-inch, 100-watt subwoofer.

They are designed to integrate into any multichannel home theater system and décor. The satellites and center channel feature sleek, curved and tapered enclosures finished in high-gloss black, accented by black grilles, a chrome top and chrome endcaps. The subwoofers feature metallic-silver and high-gloss-black styling that perfectly matches the loudspeakers.

The satellites and center channel are supplied with both omni-directional and fixed wall-mount brackets, and the satellites can be wall-, shelf- or stand-mounted for optimum positioning.

JBL will also be introducing its On Air Control 2.4G wireless loudspeaker system at CES. The system includes a pair of compact two-way loudspeakers and a transmitter/receiver module. It is ideal for a host of wireless speaker applications, including use as the surround channels in a multichannel home theater, as a second-room music system and as a high-quality wireless speaker system for laptop and desktop computers, iPod and digital music players, personal DVD/CD players and other devices.

The On Air Control 2.4G transmitter/receiver module connects to an audio/video receiver via its RCA audio jacks, and includes a 3.5mm mini-jack for connection to the stereo audio output of a laptop or desktop computer, or a portable audio device. It utilizes the 2.4GHz frequency range and has an operating distance of up to 70 feet. The transmitter/receiver module can be used with up to two pairs of JBL On Air speakers. It will be available in February at a suggested retail of $349.

Also, the company will be launching its flagship Project Everest DD66000 loudspeaker in the United States, designed to incorporate a host of loudspeaker technologies.

Its 045Be-1 ultrahigh-frequency driver uses a 1-inch beryllium diaphragm and 2-inch neodymium magnet to produce frequency response beyond 50kHz. The 476Be high-frequency compression driver utilizes a 4-inch, pure beryllium diaphragm with a 4-inch aluminum edge-wound voice coil, and JBL's rapid-flare, coherent-wave phasing plug. A high-efficiency neodymium-magnet motor structure features refinements such as a pure copper-sleeved polepiece that maintains maximum magnetic-gap flux and delivers superior sound quality at any volume, with exceptional clarity and resolution.

It is available in an elegant rosewood finish. Premium wood finishes — ebony, cherry and maple, all highly polished — are also available. It has a suggested retail of $30,000 to $35,000.
