Sirius Satellite Radio announced it added more than 359,000 new subscribers during the third quarter of 2005, reaching over 2.17 million total subscribers. The third-quarter gains represent a 97 percent increase in new subscribers for the quarter a year ago.

Sirius said the quarter was the best in its history.

Mel Karmazin, Sirius' CEO, noted, “With the recent introduction of our new programming lineup, which will include Martha Stewart Living Radio later this year and Howard Stern in January 2006, we are ushering-in an exciting new chapter in satellite radio.”
