Hurd To Take Over HP Board

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 9/12/2006

Palo Alto, Calif. — Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd will replace Patricia Dunn as head of the company’s board of directors in January.

The move stems from an inquiry that found the board used an outside investigators to spy on board members to see if they were leaking information to the media. Dunn will retain her post until Jan. 18 HP when Hurd will take over.

“I am taking action to ensure that inappropriate investigative techniques will not be employed again,” said Hurd, “They have no place in HP. Unfortunately, the investigation, which was conducted with third parties, included certain inappropriate techniques. These went beyond what we understood them to be, and I apologize that they were employed.

Other fallout from this event includes the resignation of longtime board member George Keyworth, effective immediately.
