Comcast Inks Deal To Offer Gemstar EPG

PASADENA, CALIF. Gemstar-TV Guide International reached a 20-year licensing deal with Comcast Cable Communications to use its electronic program guide technology.

Comcast said it will offer TV Guide Interactive in the majority of its cable systems in its top six major market territories.

Gemstar executives said that with Comcast's 6 million basic subscribers, the TV Guide Interactive system's 1 million digital households now have access to its EPG. Comcast Cable at year-end 2000 had 1.35 million digital customers, with approximately 95 percent of its customers having access to digital video.
