AT&T Unveils Top-End 5.8GHz Cordless Phone

BEAVERTON, ORE. — AT&T unveiled its top-end 5.8GHz cordless phone, which is equipped with digital spread-spectrum frequency-hopping technology and eight-handset expandability.
The E5965C, due this month at a suggested $199.95, also features call waiting/caller ID, digital answering system, six polyphonic musical ring tones and a vibrating ringer.
The phone is manufactured by Advanced American Telephones, a VTech division that manufactures AT&T-branded telephones.
The new E5965C features a 256-color graphical screen in the handset to display the phone's various preprogrammed images. The images can be assigned to entries in the 100-name and number phone-book directory for personalized image caller ID or for use as background wallpaper.
The single handset is compatible with both the E580-1 and E580-2 accessory handsets. Both handsets feature a large lighted display and come preprogrammed with canned images and graphics for personalized image Caller ID. The E580-1 will retail for a suggested $79, while the E580-2 with a 256-color LCD screen will retail for a suggested $99.
