S-Xgen Computer/Communications Device Unveiled

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 12/5/2006

New York — Seamless Internet will publicly debut its S-Xgen ultra-mobile personal computer at International CES next month. It is a device that combines the technologies of a notebook, PDA, cellphone and tablet PC into a 14-ounce package with a unique form factor.

The S-Xgen is 6.5 inches by 3.8 inches and will be merchandized as a notebook replacement for road-warrior business travelers, a company spokesman said. Although Seamless Internet has taken about 3,000 pre-orders for the S-Xgen during the past several weeks, CES will be its official unveiling. The company intends to sell it through distribution and will explore retail partnerships at the show, the company spokesman said.

The computer will carry a $1,400 suggested retail price.

The computer’s main components are contained behind a 4-inch touch-screen display. Attached is a collapsible keyboard that when folded out becomes an almost full-size QWERTY keyboard. Then it can be folded flat against the back of the unit, allowing it to be used as a tablet PC, a company spokesman said.

The device runs on the Windows CE 5.0 operating system and uses a 520MHz Intel Xscale processor, has 256MB of memory, a 20GB hard drive and comes with Microsoft Office.

The S-Xgen

The S-Xgen has three methods of wireless communications, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and triband cellular. It also has an Ethernet port. In addition to accessing the Internet through the cellular networks, the computer can be used as a stand-alone cellphone by using a Bluetooth headset.

Other features are a built-in Web cam and USB port; the device will run about 10 hours on a single battery charge.
