Custom installers have witnessed an invasion of low-voltage and IT contractors onto their turf, retooled their businesses to integrate various home systems, and labored to master new technologies. And now they're facing a declining market for new home sales, the key driver of the custom-installation business.

How is the industry coping with these changes?
