Headsets, Charger Introduced For iPhone

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 7/16/2007

Many of the car chargers announced in the wake of the iPhone debut were already on the market for use with the iPod (see sidebar).

XtremeMac, however, introduced its InCharge Auto to time with the iPhone launch. The product's intelligent circuitry design provides maximum protection against power spikes that occur during normal vehicle operation, and a built-in LED indicates perfectly regulated power is being supplied, and an ingenious self-resetting fuse never needs to be replaced, said the company. Also, the detachable USB power cable can be used for charging with a computer. It is currently available in white or black for a $19.95 suggested retail.

Rivet International debuted a headset that is designed to fit the unique iPhone headphone/headset jack without the need for a plug adapter. The Mobile Stereo headset is meant to combine hands-free convenience with superior sound quality, allowing users to listen to their music and talk comfortably.

Users can listen to music and then simply press the one-touch answer/end button to accept incoming calls. The music mutes automatically and will resume when the call ends. The Mobile Stereo Headset features a lanyard wearing style and has a $29.99 suggested retail. It is currently available.

V-MODA announced the VIBE Duo, a dual-use earphone with microphone combination designed for use with the iPhone. At a $99.99 suggested retail, it features high-definition sound, black fabric cables and an all-metal design. It also includes three sizes of silicon fittings and small clip for added security.

Using V-MASQUE dynamic driver technology, VIBE Duo reportedly achieves a precise yet natural soundstage. BLISS (Bass Level Isolating Soft Silicon) technology further reduces outside noise for a precise and rich bass response (frequency 12Hz to 22Hz), according to the company.

Belkin's headphone adapter is designed to enable users to connect any 3.5mm stereo headphones to their iPhone. It reportedly works with any of the company's iPhone cases and comes with a lifetime warranty. The adapter has a $10.95 suggested retail.

Shure introduced the Music Phone Adapter (MPA) — a modular accessory that converts the company's sound-isolating earphones into a stereo headset and allows Apple iPhone users to switch between listening and communicating. It features a low-profile VoicePort microphone; a control button; and a detachable, modular design. It is scheduled to become available in August for a $39.99 suggested retail.
