Sprint's Latest Smartphone

Overland Park, Kan. — Sprint PCS has begun offering its first smartphone based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone platform, which enables a standard phone form factor to deliver pocket versions of Windows applications. At $649, the clamshell SP-i600 is available at Sprint, RadioShack and Best Buy stores. It weighs 5 ounces.

Verizon Expands AOL Mail

Bedminster, N.J. —Verizon Wireless made AOL e-mail and instant messaging available to any subscriber with Java-equipped phones that download Get It Now applications. Initially, the carrier is offering the service for 99 cents a month.

aacPlus Gets Mobile Boost

Nuremburg, Germany — Coding Technologies' aacPlus audio codec got a leg up in the wireless download and streaming business with its adoption as a standard by the Third Generation Partnership Project, (3GPP).
