Buffalo Tech Expands Wireless, Storage Catalog

LAS VEGAS — Buffalo Technology will expand its product portfolio with five units that include models in the home networking, external and shared storage categories.
In the networking section Buffalo is introducing the AirStation Wireless N Nfiniti Dual Band Router and Access Point. The unit's primary differentiator is an external switch that allows the unit to toggle between operating like a networking router and an access point. When in access point mode the unit can connect several wireless devices to a wired network. It will carry a $299 suggested retail price and be available in the February/March time frame.
The N Nfiniti is rated at 300MB per second of data throughput and the company is touting it as the only 802.11a/b/g/pre-n router available. It also Buffalo's AOSS technology which lets the user set up the network's security by pressing one button.
On the storage side the company has the DriveStation Quattro external hard drive. The Quattro will be available in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB capacities and have a 100MBps data transfer rate from its 7,200rpm hard drive. It can be set up for RAID storage and can connect to a PC using USB 2.0, FireWire 400 or FireWire 800.
The 1TB Quattro will carry a $599 suggested retail price and ship in January or February.
Buffalo's three shared storage devices debuting at CES are the LinkStation Live Network Shared Storage, TeraStation Live and the TeraStation Pro.
The LinkStation comes with a built-in Digital Living Network Alliance server and will be available in 250GB, 300GB, 500GB and 700GB capacities and all feature a Serial ATA interface that delivers a 35MB per second data rate. The DLNA support allow these units deliver streaming video, audio and other contents around a home. It has two USB ports to connect additional external drives. The suggested retail price for the 750GB model is $749 and it is scheduled to start shipping in early January.
The TeraStation Live is a step up from the LinkStation. It is equipped with the same feature set, but comes in 1.6TB and 2TB capacities. They ship this month with a $1,299 suggested price for the 2TB model.
The TeraStation Pro is geared toward business users and is equipped with an integrated uninterruptible Power Supply to help the unit power down safely and it comes with Disk Quota management software that allows each person accessing the NAS device to be allotted a set amount of space. This 250GB model is now shipping with a $249 suggested retail price.
