CES 2009: Aleratec Introduces HDD, Copy Cruiser

LAS VEGAS — Aleratec is unveiling several products at booth 35757MP in South Hall 4 during International CES.

The 1:6 flash-memory card Copy Cruiser is designed to duplicate up to six flash-memory cards simultaneously. It is computer connected, and the Aleratec Flash Duplication software suite is included with purchase.

With the Aleratec 1:6 flash-memory card Copy Cruiser consumers can use any of the most popular memory card formats. Compact Flash, Micro Drive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Secure Digital, MMC and Smart Media memory card formats are all supported.

The Aleratec Flash Duplication software suite features a job wizard that guides users in selecting parameters and functions, such as Copy Only, Format Only, Format and Copy, Image Copy, Format and Image Copy, and allows them to select the number of copies needed. It has a File Copy option where users can select down to the file level for copying from available folders. During a copy job the software displays the number of copies completed successfully.

It carries an estimated retail price of $1,049.

Also being launched at CES is the company's stand-alone HDD Cruiser, a hard-disk-drive sanitizer and duplicator all-in-one unit. The HDD Cruiser will simultaneously sanitize up to four HDDs to assure that all confidential data is unreadable, according to the company. It can also duplicate up to three HDDs simultaneously. The HDD Cruiser is a stand-alone unit and no computer is required for operation.

The Aleratec HDD Cruiser provides three options for sanitizing hard disc drives, each providing a more advanced level of security.

• One-pass data overwrite is to write zeroes to every block on the hard drive.

• Three-pass data overwrite writes one pass of zeros, one pass of 1s and one pass of a randomly generated pattern to every block on the hard drive. Users have the option to verify the random pattern to provide assurance that the overwrite was completed.

• Seven-pass DoD 5220.22-M has been derived from the Department of Defense 5220.22-M specification for secure overwriting of hard disk drive. After the overwrite process the hard drives appear to a computer as new drives without initialization or formatting.

The HDD Cruiser has individual, removable, locking, aluminum drive trays. In both sanitizing and duplicating the controller must access the entire capacity of each drive, so the drives must run for extended periods and cooling is of utmost importance, said the company. The HDD Cruiser has 10 ultra-quiet cooling fans, and the "only from Aleratec" aluminum drive trays are designed to offer the best possible thermal conductivity. The locking trays offer important tamper resistance to help prevent interruption of either a duplicating or sanitizing operation.

It will carry an estimated retail of $1,575.

Finally, Aleratec will be showing its 1:21 USB flash drive Copy Cruiser, which is engineered to duplicates up to 21 USB flash drives at once. The 1:21 USB flash drive Copy Cruiser is computer connected and the Aleratec USB Duplication software suite is included with purchase.
