Handful Of HD Radios Bow

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 1/8/2004

Both JVC and Panasonic are introducing the first all-in-one HD radio CD receivers (with the HD tuner built-in to the head unit).

JVC's model has a full OEL color display and motorized face. Called the SHX 900, it has a tentative street price of $799.

Panasonic's new flagship CD receiver with HD Radio is the CQ-CB9900U. It has separate seek functions for HD radio stations and it displays text data for station, artist and song title. It also includes the company's HDDM dot-matrix display and it is scheduled to ship in March at approximately $999.

Kenwood will continue to offer a line of HD radio-ready head units that work with its KTC-HR100 outboard tuner. At CES, the company is debuting a double-DIN DVD/monitor with HD radio capability. The new DDX-7015 has a 6.5-inch touch screen monitor and it plays DVD-R/RW, CD-R/RW, MP3 and WMA discs. The dual-zone unit is also Sirius-Satellite-Radio-ready and can link to a navigation system or a Kenwood Music Keg. Estimated price is $1,400.
