Staff -- TWICE, 9/3/2001
SALT LAKE CITY — Fonix is offering version 2.0 of its iSpeak, a personal text reader that reads aloud any text file in a natural, human-sounding voice. iSpeak 2.0 has been enhanced to allow users more flexibility in accessing and listening to their text.
Support for MP3 file format enables text files to be converted into MP3 files, saved and then listened to from any standard MP3 player. In addition, the aesthetics of the interface have been improved and streamlined, while additions to the sound bank have increased the number of recognized words.
The program — designed to increase the productivity of all sorts of users — including students, researchers, commuters, information workers, the learning disabled and the visually impaired — is available at a suggested retail of $69. The company said selected retailers are offering the product with a $20 mail-in rebate.
