Fujitsu Cuts Prices On Plasma Displays, Adds Commercial Line

FAIRFIELD, N.J. — Fujitsu General has cut prices on two of its five current plasma display monitors — both of which offer HDTV resolution.
The 50W-inch model P50XHA30WS and the 55W-inch model P55XHA30WS were reduced. Manufacturers' suggested retail prices were chopped from $10,999 to $8,999 and from $14,999 to $11,999, respectively, the company said.
Manufacturer's suggested retail prices on the other consumer models in the Plasmavision SlimScreen line remain unchanged. Those models include the 42W-inch EDTV-level P42VHA30WS ($4,999), the HDTV-level P42HHA30WS ($6,999) and the 63W-inch HDTV-level P63XHA30WS ($24,999).
All five monitors in the Plasmavision line feature Fujitsu's Advanced Video Movement (AVM) processor, which reduces motion artifacts and flicker, improves vertical resolution and reproduces natural movement. Also included in the line is 10-bit video processing and DVI-D input with High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).
Model P55XHA30WS is billed as "the industry's first 55-inch monitor." It features the company's proprietary e-ALiS technology. The e-ALiS system is defined as an extension of the company's Alternate Lighting of Surfaces (ALiS) technology, utilizing progressive scan technology. It is said to yield sharp, bright color-accurate images. The 16:9 widescreen display incorporates a high-definition 1,366-pixel by 768-pixel panel.
Model P50XHA30WS also produces 1,366-pixel by 768-pixel HD resolution.
In other announcements, Fujitsu unveiled its 2004 Plasmavision SlimScreen product line for the commercial market, including three upgraded widescreen 16:9 monitors in the 42W-inch and 50W-inch screen sizes.
The line includes the HDTV-level 50W-inch P50XCA30WH ($10,999), the HDTV-level P42HCA30WH ($6,999) and the EDTV-level P42VCA30WH ($4,999).
All include Fujitsu's AVM circuitry and Display Power Management Setting. The latter turns the display on and off when a signal is present or absent. In addition, the monitors feature a screen-saver function that automatically shifts the images at regular intervals to avoid screen burn-in issues.
