New York — Axion and Ceiva Logic introduced new digital photo frames this month, battling the throng of new competition in this once dormant market.
Axion began shipping its new line of digital photo frames this month. The entry level model (AXN-9700) is a 7-inch TFT LCD frame capable of holding 20 images in its internal memory. It supports JPEG picture viewing with photo rotation and accepts SD/MMC and Memory Stick memory alongside a USB cable for transferring photos stored on a PC. It will retail for a suggested $99.99.
The 8-inch AXN-9805M and 9-inch AXN-9900M build off the 9700 by offering the ability to play back MP3 music files while viewing photo slideshows. They will ship with a remote control and retail for a suggested $149 and $169, respectively.
Finally, the 10-inch AXN-9105M will offer MP3 support and MPEG-4 video playback. It will retail for a suggested $229.
Los Angeles -based Ceiva Logic announced a new line of digital photo frames last week, adding memory card slots to compliment its Internet photo delivery service.
The frames will be available in 7- and 8-inch sizes with VGA resolution LCD screens and built-in card readers for the major flash memory formats. Both frames support automatic slideshows with transition effects and adjustable time intervals.
The 8-inch frame, for a suggested $199, will ship with an interchangeable black and wood finish frame. The 7-inch frame will retail for $149.
Both models work with an optional broadband adapter ($24.95) or Wi-Fi adapter ($34.95) to access the Internet for use with the company's PicturePlan Internet photo service. The frames can also connect to the PicturePlan service out of the box through a phone line.
Ceiva's subscription-based PicturePlan can automatically update the photos displayed on a Ceiva frame by downloading images over a wireless network, broadband connection or through a phone line at select intervals throughout the day.
Subscribers can store an unlimited number of digital images on Ceiva's Web site and can send up to 50 unique images to a Ceiva frame per day. Users can also send photos to the Ceiva network directly from camera phones.
The service costs $6.95 per month. Both the 7- and 8-inch frames will come with three months worth of free service.
