Harman Debuts New PNDs

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 11/5/2007

Harman Kardon introduced a trio of new Guide + Play personal navigation devices (PNDs), including its first units to include real-time traffic and text-to-speech.

As in earlier Guide + Play models, the three new PNDs offer special settings so that users receive turn-by-turn prompts even while listening to music.

The trio leads with a GPS-310 at a suggested retail of $349 with street-name pronunciation and 2GB of internal memory for built-in maps of the United States and Canada, and more than 10 million points of interest.

The model GPS-510 at $449 adds a larger, 4-inch widescreen and real-time traffic from Clear Channel with a free 90-day trial period. It also includes a video player and SD card slot.

At the top of the line is the GPS-810 at $599, which steps up to a 4.3-inch screen and Bluetooth for hands-free calling. It also has a wireless rotary knob controller for in-car operation, photo viewer and a wireless FM transmitter to play music through the car's sound system.

All models are now shipping.
