Callpod Updates Dragon Headset, Sues Target

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 12/1/2008

Callpod debuted an updated version of its Dragon Bluetooth headset last month.

The Dragon V2 boasts a 328-foot range, and it can simultaneously connect to a cellphone and a PC for Skype calls; users can toggle between the two devices with the press of a button, Callpod said.

The device offers two-way radio communication so that two Dragon V2 users can talk over a 250,000-square-foot area, said the company.

Other features include the company's dual-microphone noise suppression technology, a two-button design, upgradeable firmware, eight hours talktime and nearly 300 hours standby. It also comes with several adapters so the Dragon V2 can be charged via computer, car or outlet.

Three finishes are offered for a $99.95 suggested retail: titanium silver, carbon fiber and black chrome.

In other Callpod news, the company announced last month it has filed a lawsuit against Target, alleging "that Target's '6-in-1 device charger' infringes Callpod's intellectual property rights."

The suit, according to a release, was filed in the Northern District of Illinois. Callpod said it is seeking a temporary restraining order to stop Target from selling and offering for sale the 6-in-1 device charger.

"Intellectual property is of paramount importance to Callpod and we will vigorously defend our rights against infringers," said Darren Guccione, Callpod CEO, in the release.

Anne Rodgers, a spokeswoman for Target, said the company could not comment on pending litigation.
