CES News: Audiovox Bows New Form Of Headrest Screens
By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, December 1, 2008
NEW YORK — Audiovox introduced at the CES Unveiled event, held here last month, the first detachable car headrest monitor that does not require any changes to the car's interior, it claims. It was introduced under the Advent brand.
The new monitor sits on the outside of the headrest but is locked into the bottom of the headrest. It will be sold under the Advent brand through expediters to car dealerships as a low-cost alternative to a factory video system. It is also easily removed to deter theft, and it works with active headrest systems.
The 7-inch Advent "quick connect" monitor, model QC7SYSPKG, is available in single- or dual-monitor configurations, and if one monitor is chosen, another can be added later.
A quick-release mounting system includes two wired mounting pods. The installer removes the headrest and inserts the pod, and when he returns the headrest, it locks the pod into place. Now the new monitor can mount in the pod.
The new monitor is shipping now. Pricing is set by individual car dealerships.
