TORRANCE, CALIF. — Alpine Electronics announced a new all-in-one audio/video and navigation in-dash unit with a removable navigation cartridge.
The double-DIN IVA-W203/P1 resembles a typical double-DIN A/V-navigation head unit with a 6.5-inch QVGA touch-screen display, but it opens to allow the "navigation drive" to be removed to receive updates for maps, operating software and Bluetooth software, said a spokesperson.
The unit provides Bluetooth hands-free calling and can control an iPod when the system is used with an optional cable. It plays back DVDs, and is HD Radio- and satellite-radio-ready when used with adapters. Navigation capabilities include text-to-speech pronunciation of street names, and preloaded maps of Canada and the full U.S., including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
The IVA-W203/P1 is shipping at a suggested retail of $1,200.
