XM, iPod Highlight LG Audio Launches

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2007

iPod compatibility, XM-ready capability, and high-definition 1,080i upscaling lead the list of key features in LG's new lineup of home theater in a box (HTiB) systems.

Seven new HTiB SKUs expand the company's selection of XM-ready HTiBs to four SKUs from one, mark the company's first four HTiBs that control and recharge iPods, and expand LG's HTiB selection with 1,080i/up-scaling HDMI outputs to five from three.

The products include the company's first 2.1-speaker HTiB that uses virtual surround to recreate a surround-soundfield.

In launching two new compact audio shelf systems, the company is offering its first iPod-docking model, which also incorporates CD/DVD player.

All of the systems but one HTiB feature front-panel USB port to reproduce music, pictures and video stores on a USB drive or USB-connected MP3 player.

Also new: a ACC97WK wireless-rear-speaker kit using 2.4GHz direct-sequence DSS to eliminate back-speaker wiring runs when used with any LG HTiB and with most competitors' HTiBs.

All product ship in March. Prices were unavailable.

The 2.1-speaker virtual-surround HTiB is the 400-watt LFD790 with 1,080i up-scaling, single DVD, USB, touch-panel controls and LG's Virtual Surround Matrix (VSM) technology to simulate surround sound. The main unit can be placed on a shelf or mounted vertically to a wall.

The 500-watt LHT734 HTiB with bookshelf speakers features single-disc DVD-receiver, iPod dock, 1,080i/up-scaling HDMI output, USB port, and LG SimpleLink automated control of other HDMI-linked LG products, such as HDTVs. The LHT754, also single disc with bookshelf speakers, adds 1,000-watt output and XM-ready port. The LHT764, also with 1,000-watt output, offers the same features but adds a five-disc DVD/CD changer. The 700-watt LHT799 adds flat, floorstanding satellite speakers with down-firing woofers, and flat center channel.

At the lower end under the Zenith brand, the 300-watt DVT723 and 250-watt DVT721 single-chassis HTiBs features DVD and VHS playback, five cube-style satellites, a subwoofer and no XM port or iPod dock. The DVT721 adds USB port.

In shelf systems, the 160-watt LFD750 features two three-way speakers with side-firing subwoofers, single-disc CD/DVD player, iPod dock and USB port. The 160-watt LFU850 shelf system also features three-way speakers with side-firing subwoofer but features CD player instead of DVD player.
