Connectivity To Highlight Holidays

— Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 6/20/2005

Flat-panel TV, notebook computers and accessories, digital cameras, MP3 players and gift cards are likely to lead the CE product parade come Q4, according to Mike Vitelli, Best Buy's senior VP/CE and product management.

Speaking here last week at a Best Buy holiday preview event, the former Sony exec stressed, however, that no single product will define the season, as iPod did last Christmas. Rather, collections of products, supported hopefully by Best Buy's new Geek Squad and Magnolia Audio Video service offers, will be the direction that the market takes.

“The product alone is nothing,” he told TWICE. “It needs the connection, to content and/or other products, for consumers to realize its potential.

“What good is an MP3 player without songs?” Vitelli asked. “Likewise, it's criminal to let a new flat-panel purchaser leave the store without an HD source.”
