Motorola Adds 2.4GHz Digital In 2003 Lineup

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 1/27/2003

Motorola will buck the prevailing 5.8GHz trends in 2003, eschewing the new frequency in its 2003 cordless phone lineup for 2.4GHz digital multihandset systems.

Unveiled at CES, Motorola's MD400 line starts shipping in May at suggested retail prices between $59.99 and $179.99. It will replace the company's introductory lineup of 2.4GHz analog phones, which it brought to market last year when it re-entered the cordless phone business.

All the phones in the MD400 line will be expandable up to a total of four handsets and are available in silver or black. The accessory handset (MD41) features 12 selectable ring tones, speakerphone, hands-free intercom and a suggested retail price of $49.99.

Common features throughout the line include handset-to-handset walkie-talkie, built-in intercom and speakerphone, a 99 speed dial memory, and the ability to assign ring tones to numbers stored on the speed dial.

The entry-level MD451 features caller ID/call waiting, 50 name phone book, and a suggested retail of $59.99. The MD451sys will ship with an additional handset in the box for a suggested $99.99.

The MD471 features caller ID/call waiting and a base station speakerphone with keypad at a suggested $79.99.

At the higher end, the MD481 sports caller ID/call waiting, digital answering machine, and keypad/speakerphone base unit. It has a suggested retail of $99.99. The MD481sys two-handset box will cost a suggested $149.99.

Finally, the top-end MD491sys features caller ID/call waiting, a digital answering machine, and a corded phone base station with speakerphone. It ships with two handsets for a suggested retail of $179.99.
