SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. — Ralph Palaia, 51, former Philips and Sensory Science executive, died late last month.
According to a report in Television Digest, Palaia died of heart-related complications. He entered the consumer electronics industry in the mid-1980s as an executive with Philips, and in the late 1980s formed MGN Technology, a company that specialized in TV/VCR combos. Palaia rejoined Philips a second time in the early 1990s, eventually becoming senior VP of sales and marketing.
He moved to Scottsdale and joined Go-Video's board and formed a consulting firm, Innovative Marketing, with former Philips executive Gerald Calabrese. Palaia eventually became a senior executive with Go-Video in the late 1990s. He left the company in late 2000 to re-enter the consulting business.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. — Chizuko Mitarai, 59, wife of Canon president and CEO Fujio Mitarai, died late last month in Japan. The couple had been married for 33 years.
Mrs. Mitarai lived in New York for 14 years with her husband, who was then president and CEO of Canon U.S.A., which is based here. The couple returned to Japan in 1989. She is survived by a son and a daughter.
