CA To Back Up Security Software With Bucks

Islandia, N.Y. — Computer Associates will offer consumers financial compensation if their computer is hacked while running CA’s Internet Security Suite 2007.
The software company will offer up to $6,500 to eligible consumers under two programs being administered through Warranty Corporation of America (WaCA). The first pays $5,000 in identity theft coverage. The coverage covers the cost of lost wages, legal fees and fixing credit reports.
If a consumer is hit with a virus they are entitled to $1,500 if the PC is running the Suite product or CA’s stand alone Anti-virus 2007 application. This will cover technical support, repair services and even hardware replacement in the event the computer is damaged beyond repair. If the software is used to cover multiple PCs, then the $1,500 would be used to fix or replace all three.
The coverage starts immediately after the program is installed and registered using the supplied WaCA Mobile Lifeline software.
CA is best known for supplying security software to enterprise level customers, but has recently begun building a retail presence.
