Pharos Ships $199 PND

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 11/8/2007

Torrance, Calif. — Pharos has introduced two personal navigation devices (PND), including the entry-level Drive GPS 150 at a suggested retail of $199.

Shipping this week, the GPS 150 has a 3.5-inch screen, more than 1.2 million points of interest and preloaded maps of the United States.

It is joined by the Drive GPS 250 with a 4-inch screen and maps of the United States and Canada at a suggested retail of $299.

Both models use SiRFstar III GPS receivers and Navteq maps, as Pharos recently switched map suppliers from Tele Atlas.

Pharos sells through retailers including Frye’s, CompUSA, J & R Music World, RCS, Datavision and Micro Center.

Pharos entered the GPS market 10 years ago with the first GPS accessory for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs. It branched into the PND market a few years ago, and it also sells an unlocked GSM smartphone with built-GPS called the Phone 600 at a suggested $699, or $499 with a two-year contract with T-Mobile.
