By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 9/4/2006

LiteOn IT will start shipping a Blu-ray PC burner in September and follow that launch with a HD-DVD burner by next spring.

The company's LH-2B1S uses a SATA connection to deliver 150MB per second data transfer rate and is being targeted at professionals requiring large amounts of storage place and those requiring HD video content play back. It can write to a variety of media formats including BD-R, BD-RE, and single and dual layer DVD+/DVD- media, along with CD-R/RW.

The unit will ship this month with a $646 suggested retail price.

The company expects to be in volume production of a half-height HD-DVD burner by March 2007 with shipments to PC vendors to follow. Pricing was not announced.
