HITACHI UNVEILS EXTERNAL USB STORAGE

SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Hitachi Global Storage Technologies is launching new Hitachi-branded personal storage products, external USB storage and portable USB storage. The storage products provide consumers with expanded storage capacity and feature a range of capacities, including what the company said is the industry's first 1TB single HDD and 0.25TB portable product.

Both new products come with USB connectivity, and the external USB storage product also comes with a power adapter. The portable USB storage product is powered through the USB cable and requires no separate power source.

A range of capacities includes 1TB, 750GB and 500GB in the external USB storage product and 250GB, 200GB and 160GB in the portable USB storage product. Both models come with pre-installed backup software and the external USB storage product features one-button backup. The same backup software on the portable USB storage device can be launched on the user's PC or Mac.
