Consumers Savor Efficiency: Whirlpool

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 3/9/2009

Saving energy, rather than water or time, is the most important factor to 84 percent of consumers when it comes to major appliance efficiency.

According to a survey of more than 2,000 adults conducted last December by Whirlpool, nearly three-quarters of consumers actively look for the government-regulated Energy Star label when shopping for appliances.

The survey also showed that married or previously married consumers seem to understand the benefits of using eco-efficient products more than their single counterparts. Some 77 percent of married respondents said they look for the Energy Star label when purchasing appliances, compared with only 59 percent of unmarried consumers.

In another finding, 71 percent of males aged 35 to 44 were attuned to high-efficiency laundry products vs. 54 percent of their female counterparts.
