LapWorks Launches Ergonomic Laptop Stands

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 2/25/2008

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIF. — LapWorks, a manufacturer of ergonomic laptop desks and stands, recently introduced two stands that elevate PC and Mac laptop computers when working at a desk.

The Attache and Envoy stands are designed to improve viewing and typing ergonomics, as well as cool a laptop in order to extend its life. Each stand features two built-in fans for cooling, four-port USB 2.0 hubs for connectivity and push-button-operation for four elevation settings.

As desktop typing stands, their lowest elevation angles the keyboard to improve typing ergonomics, said LapWorks, and when used as a desktop replacement stand when using a separate keyboard and mouse, their three steepest inclines raise the screen closer to eye level to create an ergonomic desktop "docking station."

Constructed of ABS plastic, the $69.95 Attaché and $49.95 Envoy are identical, said LapWorks, except the Attaché features a large aluminum face plate that serves as a giant heat sink.

The cooling fans use a quiet, long-lasting hydraulic ball-bearing system to keep air moving under laptops. Users first connect the included cable to a USB port, and then use an on-off power switch to operate the fans.

Both the Attaché and Envoy measure 12-7/8 inches wide by 11-3/4 inches long by 1-5/8 inches thick when folded closed. The Envoy weighs 1 pound, 10.5 ounces; the Attaché weighs 2 pounds. Both stands carry a one-year warranty.
