Rockford Bows 'Bass Shaker’

TEMPE, ARIZ. — Rockford Fosgate launched a new self-contained “bass shaker” designed to add bass-like vibrations to a car’s sound system, to complement a subwoofer system or in lieu of it when a subwoofer is not feasible.
Rockford’s first bass shaker uses a tactile transducer mounted on a suspension inside an enclosure. It may be attached to the underside of a seat or center console to literally shake the seats to create a bass-like sensation. It may also be used in home theater applications.
Rockford says the unit is installed in the manner of a subwoofer.
“If you can’t fit a subwoofer into your car, this is an option, but it performs better with a subwoofer,” explained new product planner Dan Hunter.
Rockford also launched 70 other products that were displayed in a suite during International CES, including a new entry-level Prime series of speakers and amplifiers aimed at novice customers, starting at $59/pair for coaxial speakers.
