Kmart Expands Majap Presence

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 1/29/2007

Kmart continues to expand its majap footprint as parent company Sears Holdings experiments with various formats to leverage the brands, assortments and real estate of its two national chains.

Approximately 183 of Kmart's 1,394 locations carry major appliances in stand-alone departments adjacent to consumer electronics.

In addition, a handful of Kmart stores now feature branded Sears shops inside, where shoppers can purchase majaps, CE and other hard lines. The shops, which first appeared last year within Kmarts in New Hampshire, California and Alabama, participate in Sears national promotions and accept Sears credit cards.

Sears Holdings also continues to convert Kmart stores outright to the company's newer Sears Grand format.
