Logitech Bows New Remote

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 9/11/2006

Logitech is unveiling here its new flagship Harmony 1000 remote with a 3.5-inch color touch-sensitive screen.

The remote is programmed by connecting it to a PC. A set-up wizard using the company's Smart State Technology guides the installer.

Once the remote is programmed, the screen displays icons associated with entertainment activities such as Watch HDTV, Watch a Movie, Listen to Music or Play Games. After an activity is selected, the remote's screen reveals just the controls needed for the activity.

The Harmony 1000 remote has only nine fixed buttons such as volume up and down, channel up and down, and a directional navigation pad for basic controls used for most activities, which are located on the right-hand side of the remote.

With built-in lithium-ion batteries, the remote also comes with a charging stand. It will ship next month with a suggested retail of $499.
