AOL Extends E-Mail Access To RIM 950

Staff -- TWICE, 12/18/2000

DULLES, VA. -Having enabled its members to access their e-mail and instant messaging services from Sprint PCS phones, America Online has now extended that capability to users of a two-way wireless messaging device made by Research In Motion.

A special version of the RIM 950 carries the AOL brand and operates on Cingular's BellSouth Wireless Data network. It's available only from AOL to members for $329.95, plus a monthly fee of $19.95.

Although AOL is using the RIM 950, only the AOL-branded version of the 950 is able to access AOL

e-mail and instant messaging because it's loaded with AOL software, RIM said. As a result, current RIM owners who may also be AOL members can't use their existing model to take advantage of the service.
