Wireless Headset Matches Most Cellphones

Staff -- TWICE, 7/23/2001

Axyys has unveiled the Avant, a hands-free wireless headset and speakerphone system that is compatible with all popular cellphones.

The Avant features a compact wireless headset that is 3.5 inches long and weighs .5 ounce. The headset, said to be one of the first of its kind to market, uses Convergent Signal Technology (CST) to speak to the base unit, which in turn connects to the earphone jack of all popular cellphones.

Making its debut in a hands-free in-car cellular communications system, CST deploys multiple beams of invisible infrared light to deliver the highest sound quality to the driver, while minimizing static noise and interference.

The wireless headset handles 2.5 hours of talk time and can be put in sleep mode to conserve battery life when not in use. For charging, the wireless headset docks to the base unit, which draws power from the cigarette lighter.

The speakerphone comes with an 8-foot microphone cord that plugs into the base unit and can be concealed in the car's paneling.

The system has a suggested retail of $149 and is available in July.
