Component Audio Merchandising Changing Its Tune

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 12/20/2004

The audio component business is this year's comeback kid, thanks in part to a comeback in component-audio merchandising by select A/V retailers. But there's still a long way to go, according to a panel of key industry executives.

Instead of merchandising low-end home theater in a box (HTiB) systems as accessories to a big-screen purchase, some A/V specialists have repositioned component audio as integral to the enjoyment of big-screen TVs. The repositioning is critical to A/V specialists because they can't rely anymore on offering a better video experience to differentiate themselves from big-box retailers.

TWICE selected its panel of seven executives to debate audio industry issues, some of which will be addressed in a second installment in the next issue. Questions were e-mailed to the executives, who offered these insights on the state of component-audio merchandising.
