Maxell Introduces New Product Quartet

Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2004

To help satisfy the growing power demands of digital cameras — a category expected to approach 16 million units sold in 2003 — Maxell Corp. of America is unveiling a lithium ion digital camera charger at the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) here this week.

Called the DC 3000, the charger carries a $49.99 suggested retail, charges batteries from all major manufacturers, and includes AC/DC power adapters for use in the home or car. Consumer-friendly packaging offers a complete list of compatible batteries and has strong on-shelf presence, while emphasizing the Maxell brand, said the company.

Maxell is recommending a dedicated digital battery planoram to retailers, offering them cross-referencing guides as an organizing tool for a complete digital-camera-battery retail solution.

At the same time, Maxell is expanding it branded headphones line, for CES debut, adding two Value Packs said to offer consumer affordability and retailer merchandising punch.

The HVP-1 combines an HP-200 headphone with an EB-95 ear bud for a suggested $6.99 retail. The HP-200 features a lightweight locking headband and a single-entry cord design for ease of use. The EB-95 is a stylish, lightweight ear bud.

The HVP-2 pairs the NB-303 neckband headphone with the HB-360 headband unit for a suggested $12.99 retail. The NB-303 features dynamic sound for all portable sound sources and a swivel ear cup design for ease of transport. The HB-360 is a digital-stereo wraparound-vertical ear bud, designed for comfort and portability.

Five vibrant colors have been added to DVD-R and DVD+R discs, for CES introduction, in Maxell's line of recordable DVD media. Available in 10-packs, the new color DVDs come in bright orange, teal, pink, lime green and midnight blue.

The Fair Lawn, N.J.-based company's DVD line features a bold packaging design that highlights format information, making product selection easier, said Maxell.

For consumers who like the convenience of purchasing their blank media in spindle packs and jewel cases separately, Maxell is introducing, at CES, what its calls the industry's first space-saving Double Slim jewel cases that hold two CDs or DVDs safely in a slim-profile design.

The clear cases, which have a suggested retail of $3.99 and $12.99 for a 25-pack of assorted color cases, come with a molded-in hanger for flexible retail merchandising. The molded hanger also makes the cases perfect for storing in any ring binder, said Maxell.

With flat-screen TV sales accounting for 20 percent of all digital TV sales, said Maxell, the company is offering a trio of video screen cleaning care systems.

The Big Screen Cleaning Kit, at a suggested $24.99 retail, contains 25 cleaning applicator cloths and spray cleaner. A Big Screen Cleaning Kit Refill Pack, for a suggested $12.99, offers 50 replacement cloths and cleaning fluid. A Video Screen Total Clean Solution, at $16.99, contains re-washable micro fiber cleaning cloth and cleaning fluid.
