Meridian To Unveil 'Faroudja' Line

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/5/2005

Meridian Audio will use CEDIA Expo to unveil its “Faroudja, by Meridian” line of high-end home theater A/V products, following a recent licensing agreement between Meridian and Genesis Microchip, which owns the Faroudja brand and patents.

Under the agreement signed in June, the British audio manufacturer takes over manufacturing and worldwide sales and distribution of Faroudja brand consumer products.

Meridian said it is also working with Genesis to co-develop new products that will build upon Faroudja's technology and on existing Meridian optical disc player technology.

Initially, Meridian will sell Faroudja products under the Faroudja name, but future products will be branded “Faroudja, by Meridian,” the company said.

To start, Meridian will manufacture the DVP1080 high-definition video processor and the DILA1080pHD and DILA788 D-ILA-based (LCoS) front projectors. It will also offer the ultra-high-end three-chip D-ILA projector, model DILA-QX1 ($295,000 suggested retail), by special order.

The Faroudja DVP1080 ($6,995) HD digital video processor delivers high-bandwidth high-definition processing, optimizing current advanced 1,920 by 1,080p digital displays by converting 1,080i interlaced HD video to a 1,080p progressive format.

Full high-definition cross-conversion and standard-definition processing are included, with patented technology for de-interlacing, motion tracking, color fidelity and image detail enhancement.

The DILA1080pHD ($37,995) three-chip D-ILA digital projector offers full 1,920 by 1,080p resolution. Each projector is Theater Optimized by video expert William Phelps. It is said to produce a 2,100:1 contrast ratio and film-accurate color.

The DILA788 ($24,995), also Theater Optimized by William Phelps, is a three-chip D-ILA projector with 1,400 by 788 resolution.
