Griffin Bows 2 iPhone Accessories

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 5/30/2008

Nashville, Tenn. — Griffin Technology introduced two iPhone accessories this week.

First, it introduced a version of its iTrip FM transmitter that can be used with the iPhone: the iTrip AutoPilot with SmartScan.

Users can play and control an iPhone or iPod while charging the device’s battery. Music is sent wirelessly to a car’s FM radio, enabling the music to be heard through the car stereo’s speakers.

The iTrip AutoPilot comes with the company’s SmartScan technology, which is designed to scan for the best three radio frequencies, then saves them automatically as presets.

The power adapter features illuminated symbols for play/pause and track forward/backward button controls, and provides tactile feedback in the form of a "click."

A three-stage light ring changes color to indicate the charging status of an iPod, and RDS technology shows song information on RDS-enabled car radio displays.

The iTrip AutoPilot is currently available for a $99.99 suggested retail.

The second product announced by Griffin this week is the PowerDock 2 — a stand-alone charging dock that’s meant to simultaneously charge an iPod and iPhone two at a time.

Reportedly able to work with any combination of two iPhone and iPod models (except the Shuffle), the PowerDock’s brushed aluminum design comes with six universal dock adapters for iPhone and iPod models that charge via USB. It is currently available for a $49.99 suggested retail.

Griffin said a PowerDock 4 will be available in July for $69.99.
