Fujitsu Adds 5-Year PDP Warranty To Plasmavision

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 10/24/2005

In an effort to assuage consumer's unwarranted fears about the longevity of plasma TVs, Fujitsu General America has issued a new comprehensive five-year extended warranty on its premiere line of newly released Plasmavision 50-series digital-cable-ready (DCR) HDTV plasma televisions and its current line of 40-series plasma displays.

At the same time, the company said it has cut suggested retail pricing on three of its Plasmavision 40-series high definition models. The cuts, which are effective now, include the 42W-inch P42HHA40US (which is reduced from $5,499 to $4,999); 50W-inch P50XHA40US (reduced from $7,499 to $6,999); and 55W-inch P55XHA40US (reduced from $9,999 to $8,499).

Fujitsu attributed the cuts to “lower manufacturing costs and increased demand” for its products.

Meanwhile, the new warranty offer “complements and extends” a recently announced three-year warranty program that offers consumers the option of a total of five-years coverage on all new 50-series plasma displays purchased from authorized Fujitsu dealers, as well as on previous purchases extending as far back as 90 days, the company said.

Under that program, the 40 Series models offer a 3-year warranty on parts and labor, and a one-year warranty on the glass panel. The 50 Series models have a 3-year warranty on parts, labor and glass, the company said.

“Now with the extended warranty program, consumers who purchase these no-compromise models have the added value and peace of mind that comes with knowing they have purchased a premium Fujitsu product, which we stand behind in every way,” said Tedd Rozylowicz, Fujitsu General America, president/COO.
