AOL Shutters Pictures Web Service

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 10/31/2008

Dulles, Va. — AOL is bowing out of the online photo services market.

In a letter sent to members, the company said it would close down its online photo service, AOL Pictures, as of Dec. 31.

AOL did not specify why it was closing the service but announced that it had partnered with American Greetings PhotoWorks service to transition consumers’ images to new servers.

AOL will migrate its users’ images to PhotoWorks and offer members the opportunity to download their images from AOL directly to their hard drive or order (for a fee) a DVD of their image files.
