Oasis Halts Recliner Production, Adds Outdoor Seats To Irwin Line

By John Laposky -- TWICE, 11/3/2008

Oasis Home Theatre Seating has halted production of its high-end lounger line due to higher production costs and market conditions. Instead, the company has shifted its focus to marketing it licensed Irwin Seating Company line of "true theatre" chairs that are priced more than 50 percent less.

Built at Irwin Seating's Grand Rapids, Mich., plant, Oasis will continue to distribute Irwin's Ambassador, Quinta, Marquee and Springfield true theatre chairs in the United States and Canada, as well as the seating manufacturer's new Sports HT and Outdoor Signature models.

The Sports HT and Outdoor Signature models are impervious to weather, according to the company. Seats and backs are upholstered in a marine-grade material that is mold-, mildew- and UV- resistant, yet has a texture that closely imitates fine leather.

Either design can be permanently mounted outside, or on a specially treated base that allows groups of two to be moved in and out of a location as required.

The Sports HT is an economical seating solution reminiscent of a ballpark seat. The seat and back are manufactured from one-piece, double-wall, blow-mold plastic with choice of solid back or nostalgic slat design with cast-iron legs. Seats can also be semi-upholstered to provide warmth and comfort. The Sports Model, which is available in choice of four colors, has a suggested retail of $300/chair.

The Outdoor Signature model features 2-inch-thick contoured back foam and a foam seat cushion. It is available upholstered in HT faux leather and can also be ordered with or without integrated cup-holder armrests. Legs are made from cast iron; all additional metal and plastic components are black. The Outdoor Signature has a suggested retail of $600/chair

Formed in 2006 by principal Rose Pefhany, former Irwin Seating Company home theater division manager, Oasis took over distribution of Irwin's true theatre chairs and loungers in the U.S. and Canada after the seating giant closed its Toronto manufacturing and marketing facilities.
