Jeff Stone Joins Circuit City
By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 1/29/2008
Richmond, Va. — Former Tweeter president/CEO Jeff Stone has joined Circuit City in the new role of executive VP for new business development.

Stone, who most recently served as president/COO of Tivoli Audio, will oversee the growth and development of the chain’s new The City concept stores, its Firedog services business and ongoing “innovation work” as the retailer revamps its operations.
“Jeff brings proven premium retail brand and operational leadership experience to our team,” said Circuit City chairman/CEO Phil Schoonover. “His specific experience in developing new consumer electronics retailing and services store concepts will be beneficial as we execute against our expansion of digital home services and optimize our new The City concept.”
Stone’s appointment is the latest in a series of recent changes within the executive suite, including the appointment this month of John Harlow as executive VP/COO and the departure of multichannel sales executive VP Danny Clark.
“As we upgrade and build depth on our team with proven retail executives, I want to strike the appropriate balance of improving our near-term financial results through fixing our core business while developing our long-term strategic growth initiatives,” Schoonover said. “We believe this balanced approach will improve our near-term profitability and our long-term competitive position while advancing shareholder value.”
Stone joined Tweeter in 1990 to help execute an expansion strategy that took the company from a 13-store regional specialist to a 177-store national chain generating more than $825 million in sales.
He joined Tivoli in 2005 and left the high-end audio manufacturer late last year.
Reporting to Stone are Marc Sieger, senior VP/general manager, services, and Steven Pappas, senior VP/president, small stores .

"Burt Lancaster was chained to the slave ship in "Spartacus?" " - CyberWizard
Ahem... Burt wasn''t in "Spartacus". His friend Kirk Douglas was the star. And Kirk (or Burt for that matter) wasn''t chained to a "slave ship" in that movie. Maybe you''re thinking of Charlton Heston, who was chained as a galley slave in "Ben-Hur."
Neither movie is in either Blu-ray or HD-DVD... but I digress.
Thanks for everyone''s input on this and other stories here at TWICE.com

This is why CC is the laughingstock of the entire CE industry. Click on tinyurl.com/2kdvho (remember to put the ht stuff, the : and the two /'s in front, and there are NO 3 W's) and you'll see the story. A ballsy thief has stolen SIX HDTV's from the SAME Circuit City store according to the news report. Tell me, Mr. Stone, just how are you going to fix this, and the myriad of other problems at CC?. Maybe chain your merchandise to the shelves much like Burt Lancaster was chained to the slave ship in "Spartacus?" Mr Stone, if only ONE Circuit City store cannot stop a single thief from stealing SIX TV's from the same friggin' store, what chances does your new employer have of making it to the end of this year without a Chapter 11 (or maybe even a Chapter 7)? Hey, maybe one of your competitors hired the thief to embarrass you and CC? Or maybe the thief is an ex-Tweeter employee upset with you selling your Tweeter stock high back when you had inside knowledge Tweeter was headed for Chapter 11. This is called "insider trading" and I've already reported you to the SEC - Hope you can find a good attorney to represent you (a good defense counsel in your part of the country will squeeze you for a high 5, low 6 advance). Mr. C. Carlin, your silence on this thread is deafening ;-)

CG, as agent Fox Muldar always said in the X-Files, "The Truth is out There." Looks like I''m not the only one that knows the inside story on Stone and others at Tweeter''s so called "management" team. And this is not the only place this being discussed in a DEALERSCOPE magazine forum as well. Check out tinyurl.com/3ytn9a (add the usual stuff in the front EXCEPT for the 3 w''s if you want to link) in the front) for the story in another trade rag. CG, speaking of rags, are you off yours now, or are you still feverishly sending out resumes?

Carlin,
I work for Stone for years, I know him quite well. The problems tweeter had that killed him, or precisely brought about by the expansion and their inability to carve out a niche that Stone claimed they would carve out for themselves. The handwriting was on the wall with regards to their inevitable demise long before Stone left and Joe took over. Yes, Joe is a bean counter and had no vision but Sandy and all the rest you that things were doomed way before those changes were made. Jeff was at the helm when the bad lease deals were made, stores they couldn't pay for themselves, management spread too thin, too new installation department, etc. Jeff and Sandy took plenty of money at a company by selling all stock while it was worth something, and Jeff knew it was time to go when it still looked like he was leaving a decent company. People close to the business knew of was really going on, I left three years ago.

CG, I enjoyed your response, but it is apparent you are much more interested in attacking the source of information that makes you uncomfortable rather than address the facts as they are. As I have noted to you previously, "Please re-read what I previously wrote: If you are too lazy to scroll down, focus on, "Sounds like to me someone there couldn't find their ass even if they had full use of both of their arms and hands! My advice? Grow up some and accept that some things get too f#&cked up to fix, and that is CC's current dilemma. YMMV, of course. BTW, I'll be looking for your apology post come December ;-)" Now read from today's "Dealerscope:" "Despite “Clearances,†Circuit City to Keep HD DVD February 01, 2008 Stephen Silver Contrary to multiple reports last week that it had placed its HD DVD players on clearance, Circuit City now says that no such decision has been made, and that the stores that did in fact tag their players with clearance stickers did so inadvertently. A Circuit City spokesman told the Web site Punchjump.com that Toshiba’s HD-A3 and HD-A30 have not been placed on clearance and will continue to be available at the chain’s stores for the foreseeable future. The players were dropped in price last month, to $149 and $199, respectively. Circuit City also told the site that sales, following the price cuts, have been strong, and that the chain plans to remain “platform agnostic.†Sounds like to me CC is looking for their ass, doesn't it? Right now, they are a running joke in the audio industry. Even Polk has seen the light and is abandoning CC and moving to Best Buy (also in today's "Dealerscope"). I guess that leaves an opening for, say, SoundDesign speakers at CC?" Let's move the discussion from your infantile rants about me to what is really important: (1) Why is CC continuing their downward spiral? ; (2) Why are their vendors abandoning them? : (3) Why is there such internal confusion and miscommunication at CC re: the high-rez DVD format; and (4) Are your forwarding your posts here to Jeff in the hopes he will offer you a job when you lose yours? Curious minds would like to know.
