GE Appliances Names New Pres/CEO

Larry Johnston, a GE Appliances division veteran who has spent the last two years as president/CEO of Paris-based GE Medical Systems (Europe) is returning to the United States as president/CEO of GE Appliances. Johnston succeeded David Cote, a 25-year GE veteran who left to join TRW as president/COO.
Johnston, who joined GE's appliance business in 1972, held a variety of sales, merchandising and regional positions, including president of GE International Puerto Rico and domestic sales operations VP. In 1989 he was named a corporate officer and Appliances sales and distribution VP, a post he held until his reassignment to Europe.
In a message welcoming Johnston to his new position, GE chairman Jack Welch said "I know that Larry will do a terrific job leading the GE Appliances business forward."
