Sirius XM Raises Rates
By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 1/22/2009
New York — Sirius XM customer-service representatives are informing subscribers that the company will raise its rates for multiple subscribers starting March 11.
In addition, the company will begin charging a fee for its online music feed for some customers, previously a free perk to all subscribers.
Two representatives confirmed the price increase to $8.99 from $6.99 for customers with multiple accounts, on each additional account. They also said Sirius XM will charge $2.99 to receive its online feed if you subscribe to discount packages such as Mostly Music, Mostly News, and A la Carte. If you subscribe to a basic or premium Sirius or XM package, then there is no fee for online service.
The above price increases may be postponed if users sign up for long term contracts of a year or more.
Sirius XM would not confirm the price increases first published in Reuters today. A spokesman said, “We are not commenting on published reports.”
Sirius XM is not raising prices on its basic plans. In July, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) stipulated the company could not raise its basic service rates for
, as part of its merger approval.

Well I have been unhappy since the merger and now they have just lost my 7 radio subscription, this is the final straw. What a terrible way to run a business, this is not how things should be done in America.

Won wonders if such a wholly anti-competitive, monoploy building merger would go through in the Obama administration... An econ friend of mine said the goverments reasoning for approving this merger was flawed, skewed hogwash to allow such concentration and removal of direct competitors with no others in sight. As an XM subscriber I won't be after the term is up. They have just jumbled the line-up with absolutely no communication of changes to their end-users. Maybe the new FCC will reopen the merger. You can file a complaint online with the FCC..

Howard needs to give back some of his cash. He was the big draw factor, but it's obviously not enough to sustain the entire company. They need to dump some real duds, like Oprah and Martha Stewart with their insane paystubs, and they add ZERO to anything worth listening to. Mel K. usuely turns everything to gold, this is a big challenge, especially with everything else in the economy being what it is. My $7 stock is now 12 cent$. Rember when Howard cashed out $200 Mil, some time back, when the price was still up there, someone knew something. But really, who can listen to FM, it's a real bad radio. I'll stick with Sirius, it has lotsa good stuff, but some bad too, that Ferrell load and bubba, are 2 unlisetenable loads, baaaaaad. they ruined Blues Channel, when it became Bluesville, previous version was much better, before XM version took over, I bet they have to pay B.B. King a stipend, now too, since his name is always mentioned, it was a better show before it was this new version. Probably cost em less too. But i ain't leaving, what else ya gonna listen to?

Kinda easy to SCORE when there's no defense on the field. Petros, right
on!! Sirius has a BIG bank date soon, you may not need to dump your
service, it may go all by itself.
